TWF Super Cup: The AllStar Seeds!
By: TWF Dave | Posted: 06/04/12

With the first annual TWF Supercup just days away from kicking off, I wanted to take a little look at the favourites and give my opinions on how well they might perform in the inaugural event.

These are my opinions on the chances of the eight Allstar Seeds (as seeded by their placement in the TWF50).

8. Davey Richards
A lot of people love Richards high work rate, no nonsense style of wrestling, but these days an almost equal amount seem to dislike it's semi-MMA style too. The fact that Richards has been seeded at all is perhaps as much an indication of ROHs pushing the barrier of the mainstream with Richards as a figurehead as it is to do with The American Wolf himself. Personally, I think there's a place for Richards style of wrestling on any companies card BUT, as an all round performer, he's leagues behind some of the names in this tournament.

Prediction: If he makes it out of the first round he'll go no further.

7. Randy Orton
I'm not a fan of Randy Orton - I've found him boring since day one and even though he's proven that he can be carried to some really good matches if he gets the right opponent, I still don't find him interesting to watch. That said, I'm fairly sure I'm in the minority by holding that opinion and Ortons chances in the Supercup are probably better than I would like.

Prediction: A good draw could see Orton make it all the way to the quarter finals. I think by that stage though, that the level of opponents will be too much for him.

6. Cody Rhodes
Rhodes is undoubtedly a WWE World Champion in the making. His "Dashing no more" character is one of the best in recent WWE history and his recent antics with the Intercontinental Championship have given that title a boost it's needed for years. Unfortunately WWE don't seem keen to push him any higher up the card just yet and that's definately going to come into play when the voting begins.

Prediction: Next year he could well be in with a shot, but this year a round two elimination at best beckons.

5. Alberto Del Rio
Del Rio still doesn't seem to have hit home with the WWE Universe as a major superstar - the fact that it's down to WWE not placing the title on him when they should have done is irrelevant. He does hold some pedigree from his days in Mexico as Dos Caras Jr, but how many people will factor that into their voting?

Prediction: Round three, maybe, with a lot of luck.

4. AJ Styles
The Phenominal one is undoubtedly the first of the Allstar seeds to have any real potential to make it to the semi-final stage, and possibly beyond if the wind is behind him. Styles is Mr TNA and that alone will hold him in good stead when the voting begins, but add to that the fact that he's probably THE single most gifted in-ring performer of his generation and that people will have great memories of some of his awesome matches... and Styles unquestionably deserves his 4th Allstar Seed billing.

Prediction: Definite quarter-finalist and a dark horse to win the whole competition.

3. Dolph Ziggler
I know this is a preview of the TWF SuperCup but to be honest, it's going to take all my will power here to not go off on a rant about how WWE are criminally (CRIMINALLY!!!) wasting Zigglers talent right now. Many people have compared Ziggler to another SuperCup Seed - Mr Perfect Curt Hennig - and I'm one of those people. For my money Ziggler has all the attributes to be one of THE top heels in any company. He's the best bump man in the buisness, he has a face you want to slap AND, above all else, the guy can actually wrestle!

Prediction: If WWE hadn't spent the past twelve months burrying him then I'd suggest a semi-final spot wasn't out of the question...

2. Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan is the best wrestler in WWE. Were he to be plying his trade in TNA, ROH, Chikara, NOAH or anywhere else right now, then he'd be the best wrestler there too. His ability to craft a wrestling match that you just can't turn away from is unmatched and guess what? He's being allowed to show his personality too! If the TWF50 were to be voted on again right now, I have a feeling that Daniel Bryan would be one place further up this list...

Prediction: It will take a ridiculous draw for Daniel Bryan to not make it to the semi-finals. Potential Winner.

1. CM Punk
Last year, just prior to Money In The Bank, CM Punk made wrestling relevant again. Less than twelve months down the line and he's becoming a tattooed, bearded version of John Cena. WWE have watered down Punks character immensly since the promo that crossed the media divide and I can't help thinking that's going to have a negative effect on his chances of winning the Supercup. He can talk on a microphone, he can wrestle and he can do both of those things better than most people in the industry but does the memory of THAT promo and the subsequent atmosphere in Chicago linger strong enough for him to win this competition?

Prediction: Potential Semi-Finalist, provided the draw is kind to him that is. I can't see him winning the whole thing though.
