Total iMPACT #019: #WrestlingMatters
By Chris Gorst
As you are probably aware, TNA iMPACT is no more. Unfortunately for the WWE fanboys who would celebrate that the show being removed from airwaves, it has merely been rebranded. Infact, TWF head honcho Dave has posted a very good blog on the name change
here which I would recommend checking out.
In the blog, he makes a very good point. If a TNA executive were to be meeting with potential sponsors/advertisers, going into a meeting and saying "Hello, I'm
and I represent TNA Wrestling on Spike TV" it would potentially lead to the potential sponsor/advertiser to assume it could be a promotion in a similar vein to WEW or Carmen Electra's NWWL, this could cause issues. Now with the show being rebranded as iMPACT Wrestling, it sounds less like a porn based promotion.
The other thing that was changed recently was the new slogan of the company to "Wrestling Matters". I really hope they take note and make a change to the shows they are booking, because for a show where "Wrestling Matters", there was a distinct lack of wrestling on this past Thursday nights show. Infact, there was a mere 20 minutes and 34 seconds of wrestling on the show. To me, that just doesn't cut it, especially when one of those matches was an X division championship match.
Hopefully this is due to the show being the first show coming off a pay per view and I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for this week only, after all, we had the main event for TNA Slammiversary all but set last week before Sacrifice even took place, so they're at least building towards the next show in advance. For TNA to seperate themselves from the stigma of WWE and their new found stance on how wrestling is a dirty word, they need to be different. I am personally enjoying the X division guys wanting to be displayed more prominently and getting themselves more television time in the process (Kendrick really seems to be coming into his own) and hopefully this is leading to a big pay off at Destination X in July (which will apparently see the return of the six sided ring which will be nice even if it is for a single night).
So TNA, please, pay attention to what you are saying. If you are asking people to tweet about how "#WrestlingMatters" then at least hold up your end of the deal and give us wrestling, otherwise the slogan is nothing more than a cheap marketing gimmick.
