Future Endeavored: Shad Gaspard
By: Derek X | Posted: 11/24/10

I'm more than a little peeved about this release because it's one that was sorely unnecessary. I still can't find the reasoning behind breaking up Cryme Tyme. I'm sure I sound like a broken clock, but WWE is systematically destroying their own tag team division. Cryme Tyme started kind of rough, with the blatant racism withstanding, but then they got over. Way over. It's enough that they never received a fair shot at the Tag Team Titles, but they didn't really need them. Cryme Tyme's gimmick of 'selling' merchandise to the fans was classic - especially when they did it to Lita at Summerslam. Cryme Tyme had flaws, but they worked despite their obvious downfalls.

Why he was released:
Aside from a few select exceptions, WWE isn't exactly a company where black men reign. In fact, all of pro-wrestling shares that distinction. So for a team like Cryme Tyme - who openly exploited all the black stereotypes - to be as over as they were, it was a success. Unfortunately, WWE can never be satisfied with their own successes. They always want more. Maybe they assumed because Shad was tall and stocky, he could become a singles competitor. But let's be honest, Shad was never going to make it on his own. He wasn't even the #1 in his own tag team. JTG was the mouthpiece of Cryme Tyme and he was the better wrestler - and that's saying something. Shad was good for a big, powerful move every now and again, but he wasn't the standout. It wasn't going to take long to prove that.

Who is at loss:
I don't think anyone is at loss here. This is as close to a mutual separation as possible. Shad doesn't have it, whatever it is. I think WWE realized that and Shad must've as well.

What the future holds:
If I ever see Shad in a ring again, it'll be too soon. I know this country is at the back end of a recession, but I suggest that he find another career. I doubt TNA would be interested in him and the independents won't do much to help his almost non-existent skills.
