X-Blog #0094: The KJR (Smackdown 8/27/10)

Before I begin I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my last blog: 5 Reasons Why John Cena Is Bad For WWE. I know John Cena is a lightning rod of controversy between the marks and smarks and I'll be honest, that's one of the reasons I wrote the blog. I absolutely love feedback, especially when it's in disagreement. I'm a bit of an antagonist because I like to have a healthy debate. So, for everyone who read the blog, enjoyed it or disagreed with it... Thank You. Look forward to more on the way in the near future.

I would also like to give my condolences to the family of Luna Vachon, who passed away this past week. If it's one thing I remember about Luna, it's her face. She was not an attractive woman. And I mean no disrespect to her or her memory, that's just my opinion. But I can respect her for putting her talent over her beauty. The divas of today are judged more by their looks than their talent. The Diva Contests that the WWE were holding a couple years back stated the contestants did not have to want to wrestle to be considered. I find that disturbing for a wrestling company. So, thanks Luna for being a dying breed of diva in a wrestling world that could use more like you.

WHAT I LIKED:
Whatever Rey is selling, I'm buying: I'm usually as hard on Rey as I am on Cena, but this week I'll give Rey his due. Rey sold the hell out of Alberto Del Rio's armbar from last week. Cena has issues selling a DDT on concrete that happened only ten minutes earlier. I'm not sure what this means for Rey, though. I haven't heard any rumors of him taking time off or anything, but I hope he is. If Del Rio can debut on Smackdown and within two weeks, take out a two-time World Champion, that's some instant credibility. Whatever comes from this situation, whatever becomes of Alberto Del Rio's career, he'll owe a small piece of it to Rey being a catapult for him.

Dolph/Kofi: Who would have thought I'd be rewarding a dirty finish for a match I'm eagerly anticipating? I am though, but only because I know that the more dirty and underhanded finishes that occur between these two young, talented superstars, the better the clean match will be at Night of Champions. I also want to give a little extra credit to Dolph for something I noticed tonight. There was a point in the match where Kofi dived off the top turnbuckle and hit a crossbody on Dolph. Where most superstars simply allow the other to dive onto them, Dolph actually jumped into Kofi to make the impact look really credible. That really resonated with me for some reason. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest differences.

WHAT I HATED:
JTG: Nevermind the fact that JTG is now scarcely used since the braintrust decided to disband Cryme Tyme (which was a bad move, in my opinion). Nevermind the fact that during Cryme Tyme's run, JTG was shown to be a pretty decent wrestler yet tonight he was squashed. My issue is with Todd Grisham. It's another one of those issues where people don't think about the things they say. Todd said that JTG was the 'antithesis' of everything the Straight-Edge Society stands for. The SES is against alchohol and drugs, so basically Todd called JTG a drug and alchohol user. I know that's not what he meant, but that's what he said. I find myself pointing out some idiotic or offensive thing somebody says or does at least once a week. I wish someone would patrol this a bit more effectively.

Hornswoggle: What a waste of time it was to have Hornswoggle 'charade' his conversation with Teddy Long. That was brutal. Hornswoggle has outlived his usefulness in the WWE. I didn't miss him while he was off filming Jackass 3D. I can't even recall the circumstances surrounding his exit or if there even were any. I think he just faded away off camera. I wish he would have stayed that way. Also, how is it that while Hornswoggle can't speak a word of English, he understands it perfectly? You'd think in his years of exposure to a predominately English speaking locker room, he'd pick up a few phrases. Besides, playing charades means you have to know the correlation between how words relate in sound to each other and to the actual word you're mimicking. That alone expresses a knowledge of the English language. But, I know, I know... I'm not supposed to over-think things when it comes to WWE. I'm just supposed to look at the screen, dumbfounded and with a blank stare on my face until they tell me to cheer.

PUSH:
Swagger Invitational: I called this one a push because I liked it and I hated it. I like that MVP and Swagger were being used. MVP especially, because he had been off camera for a while. I couldn't understand that because he is over with the crowd, he can wrestle and he's excellent on the mic. I don't understand why they would bury a viable superstar, but then again a lot of things I don't know about nor care to happens behind closed doors in the WWE. Maybe it was for his own good. Swagger, meanwhile, has been in a freefall since losing the World Title and he could use something, anything, to gain some good ground. I also liked the Invitational because it showcased some amateur wrestling prowess on the behalf of Swagger. What I didn't like was the build-up - which occurred in a blink-and-you-miss-it backstage segment on last week's show - and the pay off. I don't really care if Jack Swagger gets to host MVP's VIP Lounge. And I definitely wouldn't have cared about if MVP hosted a summer blowout party on Swagger's dime. I feel they could have come up with something a bit more important to the fans and to Swagger & MVP's careers.
