X-Blog #0090: The KJR (RAW 8/16/10)
By Derek X
Whew! They say confession is good for the soul. If that's true, my soul must be sipping mojitos on the shore of some nude beach in Latin America. I feel good right now. After letting all of that out about John Cena in the
Summerslam KJR, I'm back to the even keel that I usually experience life on. Don't get me wrong, I still hate John Cena, but I'll try to be a little nicer this time. The keyword there was
try...
WHAT I LIKED:
The Miz & Daniel Bryan: I was so negative about Summerslam that I didn't get the chance to be happy for Brian Danielson. I am very happy that he will grace us with his presence - and more importantly, his talent - on a weekly basis now. The only redeeming quality of NXT season one was Miz & Brian. Now, they've taken this rivalry onto RAW. Looking ahead, I see the next PPV being Night of Champions, That means Miz will (finally!) have to defend the US Title that has become nothing more than an accessory of late. That title needs some exposure and there's no one better suited to accomplish that task than the American Dragon.
Unified No More: I think it's a bad move to absolve the Tag Titles into themselves. I think they should have broken the titles up and put a Tag Championship on each show like it was before. I disagree with this entire situation. But if I disagree with this so much, why is it in the 'LIKE' category? Because it means someone gave a damn about the Tag Titles, which hasn't been evident lately. Hopefully this means down the stretch into Night of Champions, there will be some time given to appropriately developing a rivalry between The Hart Dynasty and any team other than The Usos. That ship has sailed. Also, those were some sweet looking titles. Now, if only someone can change the WWE Championship.
WHAT I HATED:
The Opening Segment: Cena, Cena, Cena... enough, please. Enough of the juvenile jokes. Sure, you can cause some giggles in the kiddy-boppers you appeal to, but so can Spongebob. And that's not even the worst part. There's a such thing as class. Saying Heath Slater looks like the Wendy's girl (and having a logo to prove it) is acceptable. But saying Darren Young is the product of your mother engaging in an interracial affair is not only derogatory to Darren Young, but you're talking about your own mother. Have you no respect? And then insinuating Justin Gabriel is homosexual... that's just downright crude. Especially at a time when Prop 8 is being overruled in California, which is where RAW was emanating from. That was a classless move by John Cena and by anyone who allowed him to say that. I don't think anyone else could have said that and gotten away with it. But Cena, he won't be punished for that. He's untouchable.
Cena Can't Lose: If ever there was a time when all my complaining about Cena was blatantly evident, it's tonight. Every single member of Team WWE in attendance tonight lost their scheduled match. Some of them even lost cleanly. But not John Cena. Even Randy Orton, who is only the number one contender for the WWE Championship, took a loss tonight. But not John Cena. Melina, the new Women's Champion, and her team of babyface divas were beat cleanly tonight - and to add insult to injury, they were pinned cleanly by the lowest diva on the totem pole, Jillian Hall. But not John Cena. I know the storyline called for Darren Young to lose and get kicked out of Nexus, but why couldn't Edge be the one to garner the win? Or Jericho? Or anyone else? It's because Cena is King. His new threads consisting of purple and yellow - the colors of royalty - should prove that.
Hey, I tried to stay positive tonight in regards to Cena, but he did it this time. He chose to be crude and classless. I had to call him out and I hope more people do the same. He has no right to insinuate anything about Justin Gabriel's sexual preferences. I don't care if he is homosexual. That's between himself and his beliefs.
