X-Blog #0088: The KJR (Smackdown 8/13/10)
By Derek X

I, Derek X, on behalf of the X-Blog and TWFnews.com, would like to issue our deepest condolences to Lance Cade's family and friends due to his passing. I, personally, was not a big Lance Cade fan, but I always saw his talent. I wish his family peace and serenity as they go through this trying ordeal. RIP Lance Cade.

Now, onto business...

WHAT I LIKED:
Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre: I initially had both in their own category, but then I realized I was praising them for the exact same things. The WWE has a long history of pushing young heels into superstardom and then turning them face. (i.e. The Rock, John Cena, Randy Orton, etc.) I sincerely hope they don't do the same for Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre. Tonight's Smackdown showed me that between the two of them and Dolph Ziggler, the WWE's heel category will in excellent hands in the future. Cody surprised me last week with a clean win over Matt Hardy and now he has one over Christian. And, Drew, well he just keeps on kicking. I thoroughly enjoyed both of their performances tonight. Now, I don't know if the idea is to form some kind of alliance or tag team between the two of them, but if so, I hope it's the former. Neither of them needs to be in a tag team right now. Not unless the Unified Tag Titles are imminent.

Smackdown vs RAW: RAW completely went balls-up in their booking the week before a Big 4 PPV with two diva matches and a match involving the NXT rookies which came out of nowhere and went just as far. And RAW is stacked to the decks with main event talent. Smackdown, meanwhile, gave us five decent singles matches on their show before Summerslam. Not that there is a weekly competition, but I think Smackdown wins hands down.

An MVP sighting: Where has he been the last couple weeks? I faintly remember a tag match sometime over the past few weeks, but I might have been dreaming. (Not that I dream about MVP or anything...) No, I'm not a fan of babyface MVP, nor do I like him dredging up a year-old rivalry that was bland the first time. I do, however, like to see him being used. He's great on the mic, over with the crowd and he's decent in the ring. I mean, John Cena only has two of those qualities and he's used everyday.

WHAT I HATED:
Christian: While I did enjoy Cody's win tonight, I don't like how they are cutting off their noses despite their faces (literally) as Christian deserves a lot more than what he's getting right now. Who did he piss off to get buried the way he has lately? I wish they would have allowed Christian and Matt Hardy to continue their rivalry beyond Money In The Bank and then turn Christian heel in the process. At least then he'd get the kind of attention the heels on Smackdown tend to receive on a weekly basis. But hey, at least he was used. Something is always better than nothing.

Rey's reasons why: Last week I pointed out how there was no proof in the finger-pointing/name-calling kindergarten blame game Rey and Kane were playing. So, in response, Rey names the reasons why he believes Kane attacked Undertaker. Rey's reasons include Kane finding him, wanting to get from underneath his shadow and having the most to gain from his removal. Well, if those reasons stand true as motive then Chavo has to be implicated in Eddie's death because all those things ring true for him as well. I don't actually mean to accuse Chavo in Eddie's death, I just wonder if anyone in the creative team even remembers the facts surrounding his death. If so, maybe they wouldn't let Rey say stuff like that.

One Year Later: During Swagger's promo, while I was trying hard not to listen to him use toilet humor on PG television, I thought about how far we've come in the last year. Does anyone else remember Summerfest? That means it's been a whole year since the Guest Host gimmick came and failed miserably. And overall, it's been a whole year of epic fail and loss. Since Summerslam of last year.. there is no more HBK, there's barely been any Undertaker and Triple H has been MIA (even when he was there). Not that 2009's Summerslam was a blockbuster event, but at least I was anticipating it. The only match I'm excited to see this year is the match that was just announced tonight. I can only wonder what Summerslam 2011 will look like if the current trend continues.
